Installation Troubleshooting
SLOWING BUT SURELY WE WILL BE POSTING MORE AND MORE IT's WEEKLY
THESE "IT's" ARE BASED ON THE MOST COMMON PROBLEMS INSTALLERS HAVE CALLED IN WITH OVER THE PAST 7 YEARS TO OUR TECH SUPPORT LINE.
IT#1
System Function Not Working (Output Only) Example Output Problems: Remote Door Lock and/or Unlock, Parking Lights Flash, Remote Trunk Release not working with remote.

Troubleshooting Step One: Re-test the wire in the vehicle to verify it to be the correct wire as indicated in the step-by-step manual. For example: If the manual indicates that just the GREEN LED on the test light will light up (Negative Polarity) only when the "parking lights" are turned ON, then this is what you need to verify before proceeding.

If the wire does not verify, try locating another wire of the same color in the same area as indicated in the manual. Many wires with the same color(s) repeat in vehicles, yet do not belong to the same circuit (or function). Also, some steps in the manual may indicate more than one spot in the vehicle where the same wire can be found, re-check the manual for any indication of this (Or click HERE to check for possible additional information for your specific vehicle).
If the needed wire cannot be found and/or does not verify as indicated, contact tech support using the tech support number supplied at the top of the first page of the manual. If the wire in the vehicle verifies as indicated in the manual, proceed to IT Step Two.

Troubleshooting Step Two: Test the wire from the system that's connected to the wire in the vehicle you just verified. Check to see if it test EXACTLY like the wire its connected too. If it doesn't test the same way, you definitely have a faulty connection to the wire in the vehicle. If the wire does test the same as the wire its connected to, you have confirmed a good connection and can now proceed to IT Step Three.

Troubleshooting Step Three: Disconnect the wire from the system away from the wire its connected to in the vehicle. Now take the test probe and probe the wire from the system. Using one of the systems remotes, press the button on the remote that operates that wires specific function (Example: If its the systems door lock output wire, press the lock button on the remote). The wire should show the same response when testing as the wire in the vehicle did, but this time, only when using the systems remote:

Possible Results:

If the output from the system test the OPPOSITE of the output needed (Example RED LED instead of a GREEN LED or a GREEN LED instead of a RED LED) see A below.

If the output from the system test correctly, this means the system is working properly and the problem could be B below.

If the output from the system does not show any response at all the problem could be C below.

Possible Fix:

A: The systems output has been incorrectly set and will need the output polarity changed to work properly. This is usually a simple process to make the change, but depends on which model system your installing and what output wire it is. Keep the wire disconnected and contact tech support for assistance.

B: In rare occasions, even though the wire in the vehicle test correctly, it may not be the wire in the circuit that directly operates that vehicles specific function OR a 1-wire direct connection cannot control the circuit and would require another way of connecting to the circuit. Contact tech support with your specific problem for assistance.

C: One of several factors can cause a systems output from not working at all. The most common is a blown fuse to the system and/or in the vehicle caused by an incorrect wire connection or a wrong output polarity from the system as described in step 3A above.
An output can also be permanently damaged and unrepairable from connecting to the wrong wire in the vehicle after trying to activate the specific function using the system, this is why it is very important that the wire in the vehicle is tested and confirmed to respond as indicated before any connections are made. Contact tech support with your specific problem for assistance.
IT#2
Remote Start "No Crank" Situation Example: Ignition turns ON after the remote starter is activated, but engine does not crank over.

Troubleshooting Step One: Re-test the starter wire in the vehicle to verify it to be the correct wire as indicated in the step-by-step manual. For example: If the manual indicates only the RED LED on the test light will light up (Positive Polarity) only when the ignition is in the START/CRANK position, this is what you need to verify before proceeding any further.

If the wire does not verify, try locating another wire of the same color in the same area as indicated in the manual. Many wires with the same color(s) repeat in vehicles, yet do not belong to the same circuit. Or click HERE to check for possible additional information for your specific vehicle. If the needed wire cannot be found, contact tech support using the tech support number supplied at the top of the first page of the manual. If the wire in the vehicle verifies as the correct wire as indicated in the manual, proceed to Step Two.

Troubleshooting Step Two: Test the START OUTPUT wire from the system that's connected to the starter wire in the vehicle you just verified (Commonly the PURPLE wire from most systems). Check to see if it test EXACTLY like the wire its connected too. If it doesn't test the same way, you have a faulty connection to the wire in the vehicle. If the wire does test the same as the wire its connected to, you have confirmed a good connection and can now continue to Step Three.
X
NOTE: If you installed a system that required you to cut the vehicles starter wire in half (Anti-Grind or Anti-Theft Feature) you will have to press unlock on one of the systems remotes first, BEFORE performing the above test and you will have to test both wires connected to the starter wire as you would just the purple wire.

Troubleshooting Step Three: Disconnect the START OUTPUT wire from the system (Commonly the PURPLE wire from most systems) away from the wire its connected to in the vehicle. Now take the test probe and probe the wire from the system. Using one of the systems remotes, press the button on the remote that activates the remote starter. Now, keeping a constant eye on the test probe, within 3 seconds (10-15 for Diesel) after the ignition turns ON, this wire should light just the RED LED on the test light (Positive Polarity) for about 1 second or so. This will indicate that the starter output from the system is working properly.

Possible Results:

If the START output wire from the system is not showing a momentary RED LED (a.k.a. Positive Pulse) on the test probe see A.

If the START output wire from the system is showing a momentary RED LED (a.k.a. Positive Pulse) on the test probe see B.

Possible Fix:

A: Possible bad or wrong connection to one of the systems CONSTANT POWER input wires. Test BOTH constant power wires to the system to verify constant power before, during and after remote start activation. If both constant power wires test corectly contact tech support and indicate that you used these procedures.

B: Activate the remote starter leaving a key in the ignition (Ignition OFF). Then, as soon as you see the ignition turn ON, turn the ignition to the ON position with the key (DO NOT Crank). If the vehicle remote starts it may be that the vehicles factory anti-theft system is preventing the system from starting the vehicle. You will need to install the additional bypass kit or check the connections to the bypass kit (if already installed) or try re-programming the bypass kit to the vehicle again.
Coming Next: IT#3
Remote Start "No Start" Situation Example: Ignition turns ON after the remote starter is activated and engine cranks over, but the vehicle doesn't start (at all).

Possible Causes:

  • Faulty or wrong connection to vehicles 2nd Ignition wire.
  • Additional Bypass Kit installation needed.
  • Bypass kit wiring incorrect.
  • Bypass kit needs programming (or re-programming) to the vehicle.
